Special Collection

My text could be part of a special collection on Catholic Churches in the United States.  This collection could feature histories of American churches, records kept by various churches, and texts such as mine that document the architecture and construction of the physical buildings, etc.  Depending on the volume of texts about American Catholic churches, this special collection could be divided into sub-collections based on characteristics such as region (e.g. Catholics Churches in New England) or time period (e.g. American Catholic Churches of the 20th Century).  When browsing Harvard’s special collections, I could not find any that were specifically focused on modern Catholic history, making my imagined one unique in the topic it addresses.

By collecting these texts, my special collection could serve as an archive of important religious and historical buildings around the country.  The collection would help document the history of Catholics in the United States through texts relating to their church buildings.  Because of its archival aspect, the collection could be of interest to scholars of American religious history or of Catholic history in general.  Some of the texts, such as mine, could also be used by scholars in fields such as architecture and art history.  In addition, the collection would be of interest to American Catholics interested in understanding their own history and learning more about their places of worship.
