About the Author
Horace Mitchell Miner (May 26, 1912 – November 26, 1993) was a practicing anthropologist and professor of anthropology. His primary focus was research into linguistics and agriculture, and he did a lot of work in Africa and South America, publishing several books on these topics. Yet it is his satirical essay for which he is most famous, the "Body Ritual among the Nacirema" piece becoming what he is most well known for. (Whether or not he would be pleased by that accomplishment is another thing altogether.) American Anthropologist published the article in 1956, and as far as I can find, it is both the first and last satirical piece to be included in their journal.
